links to other stuff
To divulge a little more about me and what I generally spend my time getting up to, when I’m not recording bands I’m usually either making or performing my own music, drawing cartoons and then wrestling with Adobe Illustrator to create visual delights such as you see littered across this site, or reading books about science and philosophy, possibly in an attempt to appear more interesting than I otherwise would be, but mainly to satisfy a genuine curiosity about this astonishing world in which we all find ourselves. I believe in being moral, doing good things and being nice to each other. Simple really.
I have some other websites related to my own personal projects, so feel free to have a nose around if you wish:
Third Circle Recordings is a Brighton-based music recording, production and promotion company with a recording studio situated in Portslade. James spends a good deal of his time engineering sessions here. Visit the website if you'd like to book a session.
This is the home of my own music and artwork. Maybe some day I’ll do something with it. For now it rests in this location and that’s an arrangement I’m happy with for the time being.
I comprise one third of the electro-rock band, Cat Fire Radio. We write songs, we play gigs, we dance and we rock. We’re passionate about our music and encourage anyone to check us out whenever the opportunity arises.
In other news, here are some links that may prove useful to you. It’s all stuff I find either useful, inspiring, or necessary:
A great magazine featuring extremely helpful articles. An endlessly useful resource for anyone undergoing a Music Production degree. Just remember that gear worship is in no way analogous to engineering acumen.
A forum for learned and not-so-learned engineers and production enthusiasts. Full of nice people seeking to elevate their self-worth via competitive demonstrations of their wisdom, consequently also helping each other out.
Steve Albini’s website for his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago. The “Equipment” and “Forum” sections are both equally worth looking at, even if you have no intention of booking a plane ticket any time soon.
This guy knows about acoustics. No, he really knows about acoustics. He makes no secret of that. And if you have any questions and you can track him down in a forum, he will help you out. He’s good like that.
Sam Harris is a moral philosopher, neurobiologist, the personification of logic, and Ben Stiller lookalike. He also happens to be awesome. From what I gather he has little opinion on production techniques, but a lot to say on science, reason and morality. I would encourage anyone to spend some time listening to him.
I give blood. You should too. It doesn’t cost anything and you might save someone’s life. Do it.
